The Mears family has been living on the Eastern Shore of Virginia since the 1660s. We take a great deal of pride in our history and this beautiful place we are fortunate enough to call home. For years, we harvested wild clams and oysters in Burton’s Bay. The thought of growing farm-raised oysters did not become a reality until Daniel Mears ventured off to business school. Daniel knew that he wanted to pursue a career in business but living off the Shore was unappealing to him. Daniel returned home after graduation and created Saltyside Seafarms LLC by combining his love for the water and his desire to grow a business.
